Aaniin! Greetings!

My Anishnabe name is Yellow Star (Woman), but folks know me as Teddy.  I am from Rankin Reserve of Batchewana First Nation. I currently live in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario with my two dogs; Hortus and Jack.

I was a student intern, for one year at Debajumjig Theatre Group for indigenous storytelling and theatre in Manitoulin Island. Then returned to Sault Ste. Marie, to study social work in indigenous at Sault College, and graduated in 2012.

I travel to multiple schools, colleges, universities, organizations and communities to bring awareness about sexuality and gender diversity. As a 2-Spirit person, it is important for me to share my story of learning to understand and to accept myself; both as a First Nation person but also as a queer gender fluid being.

In 2022, I began more 2Spirit community organising and started the grassroots project the 2Spirit Organsing Committee of Bawating. In January 2024, I took over the reigns and became the Aunty of The Bawating Babes, a 2Spirit-Indigenous led drag and burlesque troupe. I currently perform drag, under the stage name Bette U. Wanna of Batchewana. 

I was taught at a young age, that it is was important to give back to the people who give to you. To understand the importance of organizing with like minded people and working toward change that only others speak about.
