About
The 2Spirit Organising Committee of Bawating, is a volunteer grassroots group, that combines, arts, wellness and community building for 2Spirit, LGBTQQIA+ community members and allies.
The 2Spirit Organising Committee of Bawating or 2SOC creates, promotes and hosts different community activities, and annual programming to build awareness, support and celebrate 2Spirit, Queer-Trans Indigenous people of Turtle Island, Bawating and the surrounding communities.
Our Story
2SOC began hosted the first 1 day 2Spirit Gathering of Bawating on November 7th of 2022. This day included a 2Spirit sharing circle, a keynote presentation by 2Spirit leader and advocate Sylvia Maracle, a panel discussion, and drag show.
In 2025, 2SOC hosted their 3rd Annual 2Spirit Awareness Week in Bawating. This movement began in 2022 in Vancouver. 2SOC also host PRIDE month celebrations, Indigenous Artisan Markets, seasonal 2Spirit Sharing Circles and more. 2SOC partners with different businesses and organisations locally, provincially and nationally.

2Spirit Awareness Week – March
The 2Spirit Awareness Week is every spring solstice in March. This several day festival, takes place over several days, and includes youth/family arts nights, a drag show, workshops, 2Spirit elders and special guests in the month of March.
PRIDE Week Celebration – June
This one week recognizes both Indigenous history month, LGTBQQIA+ Pride month and also Indigenous Day on June 21st. This celebration has drag shows, special guests and a lot of rainbows. All events are open to anyone.
Indigenous Artisan Markets – Seasonal
2SOC hosts seasonal Indigenous Artisan Markets in Bawating and Sault Ste. Marie. These markets help raise funds for different 2Spirit initiatives, programming and events.
